What is CRO.CHEZ.LA?
"CRO.CHEZ.LA" is a tricky word game that came out from the fusion of the english word "crochet" and the french custom of naming stores after the owners with the word "from" followed by the name of the owner; which translates into "chez".
Even if it's written differently, it's pronounced the same as the word "crochet".
And then there is LA which is my acronym but also the way my best friend has been calling me since the very first day we met.
2009
It all started because of Nonna, it was 2009 and after my gymnastics trainings I used to walk to nonna's house.
One afternoon nonna was knitting on her sofa and i asked her to teach me, it wasn't easy but eventually I caught up and learned the stockinette stitch.
Nonna also had crochet hooks but crochet back then didn't look as appealing as knitting so I only learned how to chain.
I eventually got my own knitting needles and promised everyone I would make them a scarf but life got busy and I left them behind.
2022
It took me a long while before I actually started to believe in myself and in what I was capable of doing and creating but I am incredibly lucky to have surrounded myself with people that always saw my potential and never doubted me and my skills.
I will never say thank you enough to Giovanni, because he changed my life the day he decided I was going to knit him a icelandic sweater; he bought the wool and dropped it off to my house without giving me a deadline or any direction whatsoever. He trusted me.
That was the wind that brought the spark back to life.
2024
After years of living around the world, I got back home in Sicily; it wasn't easy coming back but one thing always kept me going through tough times: crafting.
Whether it was through up-cycling and restyling old clothes or knitting and crocheting, creating gave me hope.
Despite lots of self doubting I took the jump and finally believed in myself enough to start taking my own little corner in the fashion industry.
Our Mission
Today Cro.chez.la is still small and slowly growing.
The mission of Cro.chez.la is to create a safe and conscious space, for everyone to be the most authentic version of themselves through handmade clothing and accessories while keeping an eye on the impact the fashion industry has on the planet.
We work hard everyday to make as little waste as possible and save clothes from ending up in landfills by giving them a second life or turning them into yarn.
